2010-11 SCHEDULE
Our schedule includes 5 total snowshoe hikes (2 moderate & 3 moderate/challenging).  Please look over the schedule below and RSVP on the form to the right if you would like to join us.  If you would like more information about any of these hikes, please contact Brittany.

**For all hikes we will meet at in the designated parking areas at 9:45am and leave for the trailhead at 10am. Carpooling options will be setup prior to each snowshoe hike.

December 11th (snow permitting) - Brainard Lake
Moderate level, 1.8 miles one way.

Highlights: Breathtaking views at the top. Once you reach the reservoir, Niwot Ridge stretches straight ahead, flanked by Indian Peaks such as Kiowa, Navajo, Apache, Shoshoni and Pawnee.

Getting there: Take CO 72 (Peak to Peak Hwy) 12 miles north of Nederland and hood a hard left into the well marked Brainard Lake Recreation Area. Brainard Lake Rd is plowed for 2.6 miles from the turnoff where you will find a barrier gate and several trailheads. Parking lot doesn’t usually have enough spaces for weekend crowds, so be prepared to park down the road a bit and walk up to the trailhead. About 100 yards before (east of) barrier gate at the end of the plowed Brainard Lake Rd, you will see another metal gate on your left (south) which blocks off the service road to Left Hand Reservoir. This is where you will want to start up the Lefthand Ski Trail (marked with a sign).

January 8th – Nederland, Lost Lake Trail
Moderate to challenging, 2.8 miles one way.
The first 1.3 miles is fairly level and is an easy hike, the following 1.5 miles to the top has a steeper incline and is more challenging. Anyone not up to the challenge can do the first half and head back from there.

Highlights: Views across the valley to Eldora Mountain Corona Bowl ski trails and Lost Lake at the top.

Getting there: Drive through Nederland toward Eldora Ski Area, instead of bearing to the left to the ski area, take Boulder County Road 130, go right at the fork, through the center of Eldora. Continue 3.9 miles from the turnoff from Highway 119 to the end of the plowed section and park.

January 22nd – Lilly Pad Lake, Silverthorne
2 miles one way.  Easy to Moderate

Directions: From I-70 take Exit 205, Silverthorne/Dillon, and travel north on HWY 9 to the first traffic light at the intersection of Rainbow Drive / Wildernest Road. Turn left onto Wildernest Road (this road turns into Ryan Gulch Road). Travel for 3.6 miles to the top of Ryan Gulch Road. Toward the end of the road there will be a parking area on the left. There are two trailheads that leave from this parking lot, be sure to start at Lily Pad Lake Trailhead.

February 19th – Nederland, Lost Lake Trail.

Moderate to challenging, 2.8 miles one way.

The first 1.3 miles is fairly level and is an easy hike, the following 1.5 miles to the top has a steeper incline and is more challenging. Anyone not up to the challenge can do the first half and head back from there.

Directions: Drive through Nederland toward Eldora Ski Area, instead of bearing to the left to the ski area, take Boulder County Road 130, go right at the fork, through the center of Eldora. Continue 3.9 miles from the turnoff from Highway 119 to the end of the plowed section and park.

March 5th – Copper Mountain, Mayflower Gulch Trail
This is a moderate hike, 2.4 miles one way.

Highlights: You are rewarded after a good ascent at about 2 miles in with a descent into a grandiose basin which holds some remnants of the Old Boston Mine and ancient cabins of the Boston townsite that you can explore.

Getting there: Take I-70 west to Copper Mountain (exit 195). Drive south on CO Hwy 91 for 5.3 miles, where you will find a good-sized, plowed, but unmarked parking lot on your left.
